It is a simple and efficient design made up of three parts: the small tray, the large tray, and the case. These parts are made separately and then attached together in the final stages of construction. In this design the two trays interlock, with a case wrapped around their outside. A slight “square” on the fore edge facilitates opening.NEDCC 1999Archival materials are also housed in lighter-weight boxes. Some are the “clamshell” style, which are constructed in one piece so that the cover and tray lie flat and remain connected when they are open.
