motion picture

(also movie, moving picture, picture show, cinefilm), n. A sequence of images that, when viewed in rapid succession, gives the appearance of movement.

Notes

'Motion picture' connotes the use of film, as distinguished from 'video', which uses magnetic tape. 'Motion picture' is sometimes used as a generic term synonymous with 'moving image'.
