gum print

n.A photograph, usually on paper, made using the gum bichromate process.

Notes

The emulsion is made from sensitized gum arabic mixed with a pigment. The gum bichromate process is monochromatic, but the image may be in many different colors. Separation negatives can be overprinted to produce a color image.Gum prints are popular with many photographers because the image can be easily manipulated. The process was widely used for fine art photographs from the 1880s through the 1920s and continues to be used today.
