aerial photograph

n. A photograph made from the air.

Notes

'Aerial photograph' often connotes images made from an aircraft or balloon to show natural features and built structures, especially those used for reconnaissance and mapping. Aerial photographs are frequently made when the sun is at a low angle so that shadows show relief. 'Aerial photograph' generally connotes a vertical aerial, in which the axis of the camera is pointing straight down. The phrase oblique aerial indicates that the camera is angled toward the horizon.
