Videodiscs are approximately twelve inches in diameter and hold up to sixty minutes of programming. The video component is an analog signal; the audio component may be analog or digital. The format does not support home recording. They were intended for commercial distribution of motion pictures or television programs and have been largely superseded by DVDs. Tradenames include LaserDisc and SelectaVision.-
