SSA)a regional organization supporting individuals in archives and related fields living in the states of Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and TexasQuinn 1983, 435The Society of Southwest Archivists (SSA) has 127 members within the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Louisiana.Bell-Russel et al. 2011, 6On 5 May 1972, thirty-three archivists, librarians, and historians met at the University of Texas at Arlington to form the Society of Southwest Archivists (SSA). The states represented at that organizational meeting included Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. Arizona joined a few years later, bringing the roster of states to six, which is where it remains today.SSA 2022SSA serves over 500 archivists, special collections librarians, preservationists, conservators, records managers, and others interested in the preservation of our documentary heritage. The six states in our region are Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas, but our members come from almost every state and several countries.
