hit
n. Computing1. An entity that matches the criteria of a search. ComputingA request for a file from a web server.Notes
A hit1 is commonly a member of a set of results. For example, a search for an author in a catalog may return separate hits for each title by the author. - A hit2 involves only one file; because a complete web page typically contains many files for text and images, a count of hits is not equivalent to a count of pages.-
