(also dataset), n.A collection of related information, especially information formatted for analysis by a computer.

Often used synonymously with data file and database. The data is often related by being a sequence of information about a recurring event or conditions; for example, a collection of humidity and temperature readings at different points in a region taken at regular intervals over a period of time. The data may be related by some characteristic of the thing recorded, such as student records. The term implies that the information has been structured to facilitate analysis.
