retouching
n.
PhotographyThe process of altering an image, especially to remove defects.
Notes
Retouching includes both correction of mechanical problems, such as removing shadows from dust, as well as substantive alterations to the image, such as removing utility wires or covering blemishes or wrinkles in a portrait. In non-digital photography, retouching may be done with pencils, a brush and inks, or with an airbrush. It may be done on a negative, before printing, or on a print. In digital photography, retouching is typically done on a computer before printing.
