drawing
n.
An image using lines and shades to convey the appearance of an object.
A schematic showing the components and structure of an object or idea.
Notes
Drawing1 connotes a work done by hand, often in pencil, ink, or crayon, that emphasizes an abstraction of an object's contours to show its general form. However, that connotation is not defining; 'drawing' may refer to works done with the assistance of or by a computer program. A drawing may have shading, but generally does not have color. - A drawing2 uses shapes to represent ideas, with position and lines indicating the relationships among those ideas; for example, an architectural drawing or a flowchart.
